The Coaching Below the Words
Every leader I work with carries a set of beliefs about themselves — about authority, about what they have to prove, about what happens if they stop. Most of those beliefs were formed long before their current role. And most of them have never been examined.
That is not a weakness. It is simply how human beings work. The unconscious does not check credentials. It runs the same patterns it built at 12 or 22, regardless of the title on the door.
NLP — Neuro-Linguistic Programming — is a methodology for surfacing those patterns and changing them. Not by understanding them better, but by working directly at the source.
NLP developed in the 1970s from the study of exceptionally effective therapists and communicators: what exactly were they doing that made the difference? The result was a set of precise language and perceptual tools for changing the way experience is structured.
In my practice, NLP is not about positive thinking or clever persuasion techniques. It is about getting precise about what is actually happening in the mind of the person I am working with: which beliefs are shaping their decisions, which internal dialogue is narrowing their options, which emotional anchors fire under pressure.
When a leader says "I'm not good enough to lead this team," or "If I slow down, everything falls apart" — those are not observations. They are beliefs that produce real behaviour. NLP creates a direct path to changing them.
Symbolic Journeys are a specific NLP-derived modality I use to work with narrative and metaphor — to access and restructure deep patterns. Rather than analysing the belief directly, the work moves through the imagination — and through the body.
The person does not describe their problem as an abstract concept. They find a symbol, an image, a story that carries it. And we work with that. The effect is faster and deeper than cognitive analysis, because it bypasses the defences that the thinking mind has built up over years.
It is not mystical. It is structural. The mind stores experience symbolically before it stores it logically. Working at that level changes the foundation, not just the surface.
"You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it. But you can change the mind."
A leader who believes they must never appear uncertain will over-communicate control, suppress disagreement, and exhaust themselves managing perception. When that belief shifts — not by being told it should, but through direct experience of what becomes available when it does — their leadership changes from the inside.
This is what I see happen in this work: not better techniques on top of the same wiring, but genuinely different wiring. Faster decisions that feel clear instead of anxious. Conversations that open instead of close. Presence that does not need performance.
In my experience, this work belongs to anyone who carries a pattern they cannot move — regardless of role, age, or background. That includes executives stuck at the limit of what insight alone has produced. It also includes a parent repeating the same dynamic with their children. A teenager who has decided, somewhere along the way, that they are not capable. Someone who has done years of therapy and understands the story — but the story keeps playing.
The unconscious does not check your title or your age. It runs the same pattern it built in childhood, whether you are in a boardroom, a kitchen, or a classroom. That is precisely what makes this work universal.
I work with clients in person in Provence and California, and by video worldwide. Individual sessions and 3–6 month programmes. In French, English, and Spanish. The first call is 30 minutes, free.
This is where a conversation begins.
